History of Parkview Field

What started as just a vision for downtown revitalization came to fruition in 2009!


Hardball Capital Purchases Baseball Team

Hardball Capital, led by Jason Freier, purchased the Fort Wayne Wizards in 2006. Hardball began working with Fort Wayne city leaders on the prospects of a new ballpark located in downtown Fort Wayne.


Harrison Square Project Approved

Fort Wayne City Council approves city funds for the Harrison Square project. The Harrison Square project consists of a new ballpark, parking garage, City Park, a mixed use retail/commercial building, and a new hotel.


Construction of Harrison Square Project Begins

Groundbreaking on the ballpark portion of the Harrison Square project broke ground in November of 2007.


Ballpark Named "Parkview Field"

On September 11, 2008 officials from the City of Fort Wayne, Parkview Health, and Fort Wayne Professional Baseball unveiled the new partnership which would name the new ballpark, Parkview Field.


Baseball Team Renamed "TinCaps"

On October 2, 2008 the Fort Wayne Professional Baseball team was renamed from the Wizards to the TinCaps in honor of Johnny Appleseed, Fort Wayne and American folk hero.


Parkview Field's First Opening Day

On April 16, 2009 the TinCaps played their first home game at Parkview Field in front of a sell-out crowd. The TinCaps defeated the Dayton Dragons as the ballpark opened to rave reviews.
